My City
  • There is no application fee to participate. This is a FREE program.
  • Select a house, preferably your house, where you live, to enter into the program.
  • If you cannot enter your house, for whatever reason (perhaps your house is brand new or someone else in your household is entering your house in this program), you may select from the attached list of alternate buildings (or email us to suggest one of your own!).
  • Fill out the application and either mail or email the completed form.
  • Once we have received your application, we will send you your login information so that you can upload your findings and materials online to our Every House Has A Story wiki page. If you do not have a computer, you can mail us your work and we will enter it for you, in your name.
  • Conduct your research using our suggested list of sources. Fill out the enclosed form, either online on the wiki or by hand and send it to us so we can enter it for you.
  • Take a photograph of your house or provide an old photo of your house from the past, and use this image on your wiki page for your address. If you do not have a computer, or a scanner, send us the image and we will upload the image to your page and return your photograph to you.
  • You must complete two (2) parts to this program—a written component and a creative component. The written part is the submission, either on the wiki, by email, or by mail, is a 300-word (minimum) narrative about the story of your house. The creative component is very much open to your imagination. We can accept video (uploaded to YouTube.com and linked in your wiki page), photomontage, drawing, painting, sculpture, poetry, collage, graphic book, graphic arts, or music/lyrics about your house’s story. You do not have to turn in the physical art piece to us, but, instead, can take a photo of it and submit it on the wiki for your house. All artwork that you submit to the program will be returned.
  • Certificates of participation will be given to all who take part in the program.
  • A panel of educators and artists will act as judges for each age group, with the winners (best writing and most creative) being honored by the Mayor of Fall River at a special ceremony in December.
  • The deadline for this program, when all materials must be submitted, is Wednesday, November 25, 2009. Winners will be announced in December.
